Why Social Media Is SO Important For Your Small Business

As a Generation Z woman who spends too much of her free time on social media, I can confidently tell you that social media has changed the marketing game. I have seen, firsthand, small businesses grow and thrive from the way they used social media to transform their business.

Social Media is no mystery

If you are unfamiliar with social media, don’t be intimidated. Think of it as a way to communicate with your customers and prospects.

Like many things you do in life, it is important to have a plan for social media. And not to expect miracles overnight. You don’t water a flower once and expect it to grow. It is important to stay consistent on all social media platforms to see and maintain results, and as a small business you have a social media marketing advantage. This advantage includes being able to interact with your customers and other businesses, building brand awareness, increase website traffic, promoting sponsored posts, and advertise your products.

Interact with new customers

Social media users are increasing day by day. This could mean dozens more individuals you interact with today who didn’t know who you were the day before. Social media users are spending more time than ever on platforms including Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram, and Tik Tok. Not only do most people spend about two hours per platform, but they are also searching for businesses, like you, that could be what they are looking for. Personally, if I am looking for new clothes I want to buy or novel places to shop at, I will type in “clothing haul” on social media, in hopes to find something new. Our society is bored of what we see all the time, the goal is to find something different and exciting, and that is where you come into play with social media. You could be that new, exciting thing for someone.

Build brand awareness

There are about 31 million small businesses in the United States, and yours might be part of that number. It is important to stand out as a business and make others aware of what makes your business exceptional. This can increase network engagement and allow you to spread a message that could reach millions of people.

Boost website traffic

Social media platforms can be different in many ways; however, I believe they are all relatively connected. What you post on Instagram or Facebook does not have to stay only on Instagram or Facebook. That same rule goes for your website. Make them work together to your advantage. Social media is a great way to direct your audience to your website, ecommerce and other private platforms.

Build brand awareness on social media

Promote sponsored posts

Social media already includes free platforms that allow you to promote your business. But Facebook and other platforms allow you to promote your posts to reach a larger audience. With the added feature of ads on platforms like Facebook and Instagram, you can target your main audience. You can also select what you’d like to promote and feature on your platforms. Let’s say you have a huge sale for a certain product you sell. You can promote a sponsored post to feature that certain product and direct traffic to your personal website. Most social media platforms will also allow you to look at how many accounts you reach every week, your accounts engagement, where your reached audience is located, your top age ranges reached, and lastly how many profiles visits you’ve had.

Advertise your products

Social media is the perfect place to show, not only what your business stands for, but also what you sell or have to offer as a business. Social media allows you to promote your products in a creative way. This can include cool photos of your product on Instagram, a video or in-depth video of what you’re selling on Tik Tok, or maybe a poll on twitter. There are so many different things you can do on each social media platform. For example, Instagram not only allows you to post pictures on a feed, but also video reels, stories, and live videos. Regardless of everything I just mentioned, the main purpose of social media is to show people of all generations who you are through a screen. Your main goal is to express your business, why its important to you, and how it started. As social media continues to weave into the daily patterns of our lives, it will only continue to grow and develop. Keep in mind to stay consistent with your postings and at the end of the day it will only help your business accelerate.
